Gym Music
Last night, I did my usual gym trip but went alone since Kev was busy doing net busy-ness. Right before I left, he mentioned that he'd transferred over to my music directory some assorted songs he'd downloaded from his new p2p service. Not just ANY songs, mind you, but some of the songs on the new counting crows cd. I went ahead and transferred them to my little mp3 player and made my way to the gym, where I proceeded to have one chick moment after another.
The three counting crows songs were such a treat!! He didn't have to do that. He didn't have to send those over to me. As I listened to them while pounding away on the bike, a smile came over my face. I made a mental note that I must thank him when I return home.
Then a fourth song began to play. He'd been downloading Bob Seger tunes and stumbled upon a duet he'd done with Martina McBride (a favorite singer of mine). When it started to play, Kev frowned. It definitely was a chick song. I got all excited because I remember it from the Hope Floats soundtrack. I asked him to transfer that over as well. There I was, sweating, breathless, smiling, happy, then these lyrics hit me:
I remember clearly how you looked
The night we met
I recall your laughter and your smile
I remember how you made me
Feel so at ease
I remember all your grace and your style
And now you're all I long to see
You've come to mean so much to me
Chances are I'll see you
In my dreams tonight
You'll be smiling like the night we met
It's important to mention my unceasing chick moments last night because those lyrics just made me beam. I could have sung those to him about the night we met at the ice house. Now, they are pretty innocuous lyrics, nothing too deep in them. Probably 90 percent of the population could sing those lyrics about their chance first encounters that ended up being fruitful. That's probably why it's important once again to mention my complete vulnerability to chick moments. They felt special.
I must've been a real sight to anyone walking by the bikes at the gym. It would've made for a good workout video. The people in those are usually the only ones smiling while working out. Pretty goofy.

Ugh
Ok...this is not rescue. This is a mess. And this is one messed up individual.

Some Good
I know there are more dire needs in the Arizona fire region right now. Perhaps the last thing one should be focused on is animals, but this does my heart good. It's good to see the folks there rallying to care for their pets, even when they're running for their lives from the flames and smoke. It makes me wonder though, how many of these little guys will end up in rescue. Hopefully not too many.

Strangeness
I guess we can't blame the chupacabra for this. Where are Scully and Mulder when we need them?

An Actual Greek Restaurant in Houston?
I can't believe it. Houstonians don't do Greek food. Well, except for the throngs who flock to the Greek Festival once a year, I didn't think this city could really support a good Greek restaurant. Think again. The Chron reports that Alexander the Great Greek actually offers decent Greek food. And its efforts are being well received! I'm going to have to brave a visit one of these days.
The review mentions the plate of nice feta and olive oil that meets the start of each meal. This IS authentic. I'm trying not to drool. :)
Well, maybe not AUTHENTIC authentic. Monday night at the restaurant features tango night. Um....ok. Dear Lord. Please don't let my mom hear about this.

Allstate Doesn't Want My Business
Allstate seems to have the dog list up in arms with this relatively recent announcement of theirs. What has most of us a bit perturbed is that there is no mention of what exactly constitutes a "husky". Siberian huskies are a breed apart from the many other perky eared pups that are commonly given the 'husky' designation at pounds and shelters. It's really sad that a breed that is known for its outgoing nature and approachability will be penalized for so broad a designation. Oh well. No one said Sibe owners HAD to do business with Allstate. There are plenty of cheaper insurance companies out there anyway.
